So they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, alas, I tend to ‘disagree’ with this notion because out there, there is probably one creature whom when you set your eyes on her, you’ll feel a wave of irrational fear and guilt, your teeth will chatter and your knees will knock, yet you’ll be strongly attracted to her in spite of yourself.

Anyway let’s not dwell on that and get back to the main business before perspirations and erections start to transpire to some of my ‘fellow perverts’ (lol).

You might ask yourself why you’re reading this on THE ZIM-TAINMENT, well, we’ve taken a twist for a bit and we’re going to introduce you to one of Zimbabwe’s young aspiring models.

Born in a family of two and on the 26th of April in Harare is a girl named Caroline Tavaziva. Her mother later named her Hazel because of the beautiful eyes she has.

Hazel did her Primary schooling at two schools, Louis Mt Batten for her grade 1 and Belvedere Primary from grade 2 to 7. She later went on to Girls High school for her form 1 and transferred to Dominican Convent for her form 2 up to Upper 6.

Having lost her mom and dad in 2010 and 2012 respectively, Hazel has experienced a lot in her life but has stayed strong and positive in a bid to reach her destiny. From Primary to High School Hazel was the brightest as she was always taking the number one spot in all her classes, she took numerous prizes at High School in almost all her subjects.

Losing her dad in 2012, the same year she was doing her Upper 6, Hazel knew that life was not going to be the same again and she even worked harder in School that she came out with flying colours in her ‘A’ Level and got an astonishing 15 points.

With the grace of God Hazel received a scholarship to go and study Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Chichester in the United Kingdom. This also came as a green light for Hazel to pursue her modelling career at an advanced stage. She has represented her University in Turkey where she came out second princess. Right now she is in Texas, US for her industrial attachment.

For any modelling agency wishing to work with this gem you can contact or follow her on Facebook at Hazel Caroline Tavaziva

Hey what’s good fam? Hope I find you well hey! Lest I forget, should I say happy New Year or happy new month? Anyway I hope you’ll have a great month ahead of you.

So as we jet off the month of February, I’d like to introduce to you one of the upcoming talented rappers. In fact, let me introduce to one song which I think you gon give props all the way.
I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of M Killer but he’s got a dope song entitled Ghetto which he featured his homie J Enigma.

The track is all about the ghetto life and how niggaz are pulling strings to make ends meet. They talk about the way they hustle and how they are upgrading to the ‘higher levels’

The Hip Hop track starts with a traditional drum for the first few seconds (one aspect not used by many Hip Hop producers) and also ends with the traditional drum which makes it kinda unique from other Hip Hop tracks that I’ve been listening to.

The beat goes hand in glove with Enigma’s chorus in which his melodic voice murdered the whole track. The chorus goes like, “I’m on another lever, if you looking for me homie you can find me in the ghetto ndine boys ndakatyoka x2”

The 1st verse (by M – Killer) seems as if the song is based on a true story and that’s one thing I liked about the track. It’s not about those vapfana who be talking bout what they don’t have.

I really didn’t feel the 2nd verse by Enigma, of which I think they should have put someone else or M – Killer should have done it. From the way Enigma sang the chorus, he should have just remained on the chorus.

Another thing which I feel they should have added on the track is a lil bit of vernacular on their verses. Nowadays it seems as if vernacular is taking all the money especially with the inclusion of a dope wordplay, metaphors and similes.

Anyway I give this track 3 stars because of the way it was tackled, from the beat, the chorus and the verses (exclude the 2nd verse lol)

January is almost coming to an end and we been sleeping on some good music which has been dropped from the 1st of January up to last week if am not mistaken. So am not going to dwell on the tracks which you’ve heard and read about on other blogs.

So as I was going through my mails I realized there are a number of songs which I had not reviewed because of a couple of reasons. The 1st track to appear on this blog in 2016 will be Slizzy AJ’s Shayi Zandla produced at We Made it Entertainment.

From the title of the track you’d probably think it is a complete Ndebele track but naaaah Slizzy made sure that he catered for all the majority three languages in Zimbabwe.

Shayi Zandla is a typical self-appraisal Hip Hop track in which Slizzy will be telling us about how dope he is in the Hip Hop industry. Shayi Zandla which means “Clap your hands” is part of the chorus which goes like, “Shayi Zandla x2 do the clap.”

Slizzy showed his artistry with the use of similes and metaphors in some parts of his bars which is now a unique feature in most of the doppest Zim Hip Hop songs out there.

What I also liked about this track is the use of the two major vernaculars in Zim. This is good for music as it breaks language barriers as people of different tribes can be able to understand what is being said in the song.

My best lines in the track goes like, “Vanakirwa neskiri hanzi mdara mawachisa/ From Chi Town to Highfield hanzi mdara machipisa (Machipisa)/

However, besides the use of multiple languages used in the track, it is not ‘enjoyable’ in the sense that what he was singing/raping about is typical in many Zim Hip Hop songs. I gave made three people listen to this song and only one liked it. So I think next time he should and master his writing so that he won’t be in that category where one would press next saying this is a typical Nhingi song.

Apparently 2016 has started on a high note with a plethora of artists promising and releasing bangers of tunes some of which can be future hits in the Zim Hip Hop industry. One rapper whose artistry behind the mic ensures him a brighter 2016 is Tony Lyas.

Tony Lyas, an upcoming rapper from Harare has released his 2nd professional track entitled “Ngwarira” which features Zim’s best freestyler T Gonzi of the “Zvenyu” fame. The track is not a typical Hip Hop tune where rappers will be feeling themselves talking about what they don’t own but one which encourages the youths and talk about the effects of not listening to the wise ones.

Ngwarira talks about how the youths be spending a lot of time walking and sitting around the corners doing nothing productive and how they will suffer the consequences for their actions. Tony will be sitting on the chorus which goes like, “Ngwarira zvaunobata zvichaunza nhamo/ Ngwarira maunofamba uchibuda namo/” (Beware of what you handle it will bring you sorrow/ Beware of where you walk and go).

Tony gives words of wisdom in the first verse in which he condemns those youths who are always seated doing nothing whilst others are finding a way of living. He also condemns the schools kids who always bunk school whilst others will be learning. Girls who are addicted to bleaching are also not left behind as he tells them the effects of their doings. Lyas also urges everyone to listen to their parents as they are the ones who gives guidance in life.

In the 2nd verse, the ever energetic T Gonzi shows his prowess behind the mic with his wordplay as he also comes in telling the youths that everything good comes in with hard work. He also tells the youths that everyone reap what they sow and people should work hard for better lives. One of the best lines in T Gonzi’s verse goes like, “Vamwe vaizviti vakangwara vachitorera vanhu mafoni/ Vakazozviona kuti ma liars (Lyas), ma Lyas (liars) kunge Tony”

T Gonzi goes on to tell the school kids that if they read they pass and if they pass they will probably find jobs. He also urges the youths not to underrate each other as no one knows what the future holds for each other.
As mentioned earlier on, this song is not a typical tune where rappers will be talking about bling, girls and money which makes it peculiar to the other Hip Hop songs that you know. On that fact I give the song a 7 out of 10, the reason being that the chorus was not precisely handled as compared to the verses.

This is a must have song on your play list as we begin anew year, if you feel like listening to the song you can contact Ninja Reezy on WhatsApp (+263 775 309 038). You can also follow on Twitter and Instagram @ninja_reezy.

Qounfuzed

QOUNFUZED

Dancehall stars from Souljah Love to Seh Calaz have flirted with and even flaunted with controversy but little with the gusto of Qounfuzed. On his 2011 hit and breakthrough debut, Chimbovarega (feat Freeman), the Harare based Dancehall chanter was willing to put anybody who came in his way in his verbal crosshairs including some of the country’s top Dancehall chanters. Since then Qounfuzed has fallen prey to the beautiful Zimbabwean girls because of his style and his love songs, this has put him on a different new level in the music industry.

Qounfuzed was born McDonald Sheldon in Harare on the 5th of June 1993 at Warren Park Maternity Clinic. He attended his primary and secondary schools at Warren Park 3 and Blakiston respectively. Growing in a family where everyone loved music, Qounfuzed is the first in his family to take up music as a career. He grew up listening to UB40, Michael Jackson, Maskiri and Elephant Man. Qounfuzed tried a couple of other genres but Dancehall was his destination and at that time there were so many opportunities in the genre since it was also rising.

Having started music at a tender age in 2008, Qounfuzed released some tracks which did not make an impact on the Dancehall scene until 2011 when he collaborated with the Dancehall doctor Freeman on his hit track Chimbovarega which was fairly received by the Dancehall fans. His first album entitled King of Style was his stepping stone to be one of the best vocalist in the Dancehall industry. King of Style had tracks like Baby It's Raining which had a stellar video which featured the raunchy dancer Beverly Bev Sibanda.

Qounfuzed (with Bev)
Qounfuzed who is also known as the king of style, is also notorious for producing the best videos in the industry. Videos like Mwana, Tichiri Tese Here, Chibhubhubhu, Inini and Kure are some of his works that led to many people winning his heart. The king of style is also a music video director, he directed the whole of Werras Riddim Medley and he is the one who directed most of his music videos.

The combination of Qounfuzed’s unique nasal delivery, crossover appeal and uniqueness to appeal and willingness to attack and offend anything in his way without prejudice, quickly established the young Dancehall chanter as a seemingly unstoppable phenomenon, a fact proven when some of his tracks spent almost a month on the Power FM daily and Top 40 chart shows.

Qounfuzed’s versatility has seen him collaborating with artists from across all genres in Zimbabwe. He has collaborated with artists from Hip Hop to Afro-Jazz and they include: Stunner, Maskiri, Noble Styles  and Pah Chihera. His track with Pah (Kana wazofunga) sent waves on radio as it occupied the number one spot for a long time. Also, his track with Noble Styles (Kusvika rinyure) seems to be one of his best offering as it occupied the number one spot on the Power FM daily and top 40 chart shows.

Qounfuzed has not only won the hearts of his Zimbabwean fans, he has also performed in Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa. One of Qounfuzed’s major performances came on the Mr. Vegas’s show in 2011 when he came to Zimbabwe and performed at the HICC. Qounfuzed missed the Dancehall Awards and made a stellar performance at the Mafikizolo show in 2014 with his then hit song Kana Wazofunga which featured Pah Chihera.

In the midst of critical and career success and also the controversy stirred up in some of his lyrics, Qounfuzed was once besieged by the law after punching fellow Dancehall star Seh Calaz at the 2013 showdown in Harare. Qounfuzed punched Seh Calaz after he leaked nude photos of one of his ex-girlfriends but Calaz later dropped the charges after he explained there was a misunderstanding. However Seh Calaz was not satisfied with his move of dropping the charges and went back to Qounfuzed for revenge with his Bhanditi clique. They went with golf clubs and baseball sticks and also ended up cutting part of Qounfuzed's dreadlocks. After Seh Calaz and his crew had cut off his dreadlocks, Qounfuzed went on to sing Mativenga, a song which is based on a notorious ghetto boy who was ill mannered. The song was based on Qounfuzed’s real life experiences.

Somewhere in Mozambique
With all this happening in the same year, the King of style formed his own label called Tisu Tega Tiriko and introduced his apparel from this label and many people in Harare has been rocking the Tisu Tega Tiriko t-shirts.

2014 saw Qounfuzed being nominated in the Zim Dancehall Awards for the best video on his track entitled Inini. The same year also saw the king of style teaming up with the controversial dancehall chanter Platinum Prince to form the notorious clique known as Ndururani. Their antagonistic lyrics saw the duo slaying many dancehall chanters through diss tracks and clashes which have even turned out to be violent with some artists. The king of style’s lyrical prowess behind the mic has seen him ride almost every riddim which come out in the Zimdancehall fraternity.

With all the hard work which Qounfuzed has put in in building his brand, only a one problem seemed to be an obstacle in his career. Ever since the introduction of the Dancehall slots on some Zimbabwean radio stations, Qounfuzed was never (and is still not being) played fairly as other artists. In an interview with Ninja Reezy in mid-2015 he talked about 5 Reasons Why He Don't Get Airplay on some radio stations.

All this did not stop Qounfuzed from doing great things in the industry but gave him the agility to do more great work than those who were getting airplay. Qounfuzed released a single track entitled Kusvika Rinyure off his joint album Kufunga Kushanda with the Hip Hop star Noble Styles. Kusvika Rinyure spent almost a month on the Power FM top 40 and Daily chart shows, making him one of the best Dancehall vocalist in Zimbabwe. The love song which has lyrics which are more noticeably restrained has been a national anthem among many music followers of different genres. Since some have said that the sky is the limit, the future is bright for the young dancehall artist who managed to make a name for himself in an industry which has been dominated by the ghettos of Mbare and Chitungwiza.

Apparently Qounfuzed is scheduled to tour the United Kingdom for the Winter Explosion in early February 2016.
