QOUNFUZED

Dancehall stars from Souljah Love to Seh Calaz have flirted with and even flaunted with controversy but little with the gusto of Qounfuzed. On his 2011 hit and breakthrough debut, Chimbovarega (feat Freeman), the Harare based Dancehall chanter was willing to put anybody who came in his way in his verbal crosshairs including some of the country’s top Dancehall chanters. Since then Qounfuzed has fallen prey to the beautiful Zimbabwean girls because of his style and his love songs, this has put him on a different new level in the music industry.

Qounfuzed was born McDonald Sheldon in Harare on the 5th of June 1993 at Warren Park Maternity Clinic. He attended his primary and secondary schools at Warren Park 3 and Blakiston respectively. Growing in a family where everyone loved music, Qounfuzed is the first in his family to take up music as a career. He grew up listening to UB40, Michael Jackson, Maskiri and Elephant Man. Qounfuzed tried a couple of other genres but Dancehall was his destination and at that time there were so many opportunities in the genre since it was also rising.

Having started music at a tender age in 2008, Qounfuzed released some tracks which did not make an impact on the Dancehall scene until 2011 when he collaborated with the Dancehall doctor Freeman on his hit track Chimbovarega which was fairly received by the Dancehall fans. His first album entitled King of Style was his stepping stone to be one of the best vocalist in the Dancehall industry. King of Style had tracks like Baby It's Raining which had a stellar video which featured the raunchy dancer Beverly Bev Sibanda.

Qounfuzed (with Bev)
Qounfuzed who is also known as the king of style, is also notorious for producing the best videos in the industry. Videos like Mwana, Tichiri Tese Here, Chibhubhubhu, Inini and Kure are some of his works that led to many people winning his heart. The king of style is also a music video director, he directed the whole of Werras Riddim Medley and he is the one who directed most of his music videos.

The combination of Qounfuzed’s unique nasal delivery, crossover appeal and uniqueness to appeal and willingness to attack and offend anything in his way without prejudice, quickly established the young Dancehall chanter as a seemingly unstoppable phenomenon, a fact proven when some of his tracks spent almost a month on the Power FM daily and Top 40 chart shows.

Qounfuzed’s versatility has seen him collaborating with artists from across all genres in Zimbabwe. He has collaborated with artists from Hip Hop to Afro-Jazz and they include: Stunner, Maskiri, Noble Styles  and Pah Chihera. His track with Pah (Kana wazofunga) sent waves on radio as it occupied the number one spot for a long time. Also, his track with Noble Styles (Kusvika rinyure) seems to be one of his best offering as it occupied the number one spot on the Power FM daily and top 40 chart shows.

Qounfuzed has not only won the hearts of his Zimbabwean fans, he has also performed in Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa. One of Qounfuzed’s major performances came on the Mr. Vegas’s show in 2011 when he came to Zimbabwe and performed at the HICC. Qounfuzed missed the Dancehall Awards and made a stellar performance at the Mafikizolo show in 2014 with his then hit song Kana Wazofunga which featured Pah Chihera.

Qounfuzed with Pah at the Mafikizolo Show
In the midst of critical and career success and also the controversy stirred up in some of his lyrics, Qounfuzed was once besieged by the law after punching fellow Dancehall star Seh Calaz at the 2013 showdown in Harare. Qounfuzed punched Seh Calaz after he leaked nude photos of one of his ex-girlfriends but Calaz later dropped the charges after he explained there was a misunderstanding. However Seh Calaz was not satisfied with his move of dropping the charges and went back to Qounfuzed for revenge with his Bhanditi clique. They went with golf clubs and baseball sticks and also ended up cutting part of Qounfuzed's dreadlocks. After Seh Calaz and his crew had cut off his dreadlocks, Qounfuzed went on to sing Mativenga, a song which is based on a notorious ghetto boy who was ill mannered. The song was based on Qounfuzed’s real life experiences.

Somewhere in Mozambique
With all this happening in the same year, the King of style formed his own label called Tisu Tega Tiriko and introduced his apparel from this label and many people in Harare has been rocking the Tisu Tega Tiriko t-shirts.

2014 saw Qounfuzed being nominated in the Zim Dancehall Awards for the best video on his track entitled Inini. The same year also saw the king of style teaming up with the controversial dancehall chanter Platinum Prince to form the notorious clique known as Ndururani. Their antagonistic lyrics saw the duo slaying many dancehall chanters through diss tracks and clashes which have even turned out to be violent with some artists. The king of style’s lyrical prowess behind the mic has seen him ride almost every riddim which come out in the Zimdancehall fraternity.

With all the hard work which Qounfuzed has put in in building his brand, only a one problem seemed to be an obstacle in his career. Ever since the introduction of the Dancehall slots on some Zimbabwean radio stations, Qounfuzed was never (and is still not being) played fairly as other artists. In an interview with Ninja Reezy in mid-2015 he talked about 5 Reasons Why He Don't Get Airplay on some radio stations.

All this did not stop Qounfuzed from doing great things in the industry but gave him the agility to do more great work than those who were getting airplay. Qounfuzed released a single track entitled Kusvika Rinyure off his joint album Kufunga Kushanda with the Hip Hop star Noble Styles. Kusvika Rinyure spent almost a month on the Power FM top 40 and Daily chart shows, making him one of the best Dancehall vocalist in Zimbabwe. The love song which has lyrics which are more noticeably restrained has been a national anthem among many music followers of different genres. Since some have said that the sky is the limit, the future is bright for the young dancehall artist who managed to make a name for himself in an industry which has been dominated by the ghettos of Mbare and Chitungwiza.

Apparently Qounfuzed is scheduled to tour the United Kingdom for the Winter Explosion in early February 2016.

Blacperl at her album launch
So the last time we made a list of the Potential ZHHA Winners 2015 people laughed their asses off as if they had been listening to Zim Hip Hop from Jupiter or Saturn.

Apparently we had opined that Blacperl, the Masofa Panze queen was one of the artists who had worked her a$$ off in 2015 and was bound to walk away with one or more accolades from the Zim Hip Hop Awards.

Our so-called ‘opinion’ has proved to be almost on point as Blacperl has currently been nominated THREE TIMES in the Zim Hip Hop Awards. The event is going to take place on the 10th of December whilst the lines of voting for the people’s choice award are closing on the 8th of December.

Blacperl with Begotten sun
Blackperl's versatility and wordplay throughout the year has led to her being nominated not only once but thrice in the Zim Hip Hop Awards (as mentioned earlier). The Masofa Panze queen who recently launched Masofa Panze 3 the album with Noble Styles on the 18th of October was nominated in a tight and competitive Song of the year category for the remix of her track They Do Thega alongside T Gonzi (Zvenyu), Cal_Vin (Zkhuphani), Maskiri (Africa) and fellow femcee Trae Yung for her track Ndikoko.

The second category which she was nominated in is the Best Female alongside Icy Murda, Miss Kiddy and Amard. They do Thega remix earned the Masofa Panze queen another nomination in the Best Collaboration category which is dominated by her male counterparts.

Blacperl with Cindy Munyavi holding a copy of the Masofa Panze 3 album
Blacperl who was over the moon with joy had this to say when we had a quick chat with her,
“It has been a good year for me and it feels good to be recognised. Good luck to all the nominees”

So this time we not gon play the betting game to tell y’all who and who are going to take home the accolades. Let the Zim Hip Hop Awards team do their job and we gon chill and see who’s gon be the last man/woman standing.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE NOMINEES AND GOD BLESS Y’ALL

The visuals for for Noble Styles and Qounfuzed's chart topping duet are finally with us ladies and gentlemen.

Directed by Simba Gee and shot on location in Domboshava and the Harare CBD, the simplicity of the video is its greatest strength as the story being told takes centre stage.

Noble garbed in rags plays a village boy who tries to charm a really attractive and swagged up lady against a scenic background of a beautiful lake.
Noble Styles

Qounfuzed then comes in with a melodic chorus crooning about a lady who just won't return the love he has for her. As with all good love ballads, things take a turn for the better in the second half of the video as the scene switches to the bright city lights and the duo performs for the stubborn lady who won't accept their suit only now they have traded their rags for some dapper formal wear.

The song itself is a creative masterpiece and its reign on the urban radio charts is more than proof of its niceness. Both Noble and Qounfuzed went out of their respective Hip Hop  and Dancehall comfort zones but didn't break a sweat in slaughtering the acoustic instrumental with their tale of undying love that just happens to be hitting a brick wall.

I think y’all know what happens when talent meets hard work. Actually I have never been inspired by someone of my age ever since I was born (honestly) but ever since I started to know David Zinyama everything has started to take shape. This article seeks to shed light on how the legendary David Zinyama has inspired many people via SNAPCHAT.

When I term him “Legendary” people might think I’m exaggerating on whatever David does in life. David Zinyama is a 25yr old who graduated with a first class degree in Graphic Designing this year. He was born in Zimbabwe but is now based in England. David Zinyama was termed the King of Photoshop in Hip Hop after his (Photoshopped) pictures with Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj went viral on social media.

Unlike all the cool kids who use social media to show off what their parents will be buying them, posting new kicks, cars and clothes, it is a completely different story with the humble David Zinyama.

On his Snapchat, David usually takes us through his work from morning till evening, showing us how he works and interact with his customers. In some of his snaps he will be encouraging people not to waste their time on unproductive ish which does not bring food to the table.

One of the snaps which made me write this article is when he was talking about wasting time watching someone’s snaps that snap a lot and gaining nothing from it. He had this to say,

“Now if you got someone that snaps let’s say up to an average of a minute a day X that by 7 that is 420 seconds which is 7mins. 420 x a month (31 days) that is 217mins. 217mins is 3,6hrs. Now 3,6hrs per month x 12 that is 43,2hrs. So per year you waste 43.2hrs of your time. This is a calculation on one person, now imagine if you follow over three of these people.

If you really got what David was talking then you should know that he was also talking about those who spend their time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms doing unproductive work. If you’re on Snapchat you can add him @ davidzinyama and you’ll get to know his trademark saying, “LETS GET THIS WORK B!” Don’t forget to add @ ninjareezy also, you’re being watched lol.

BELOW ARE SOME OF HIS WORKS

YGE's Booth
Apparently in the midst of an erring economy is where you find others grinding their a$$es off so that they can make it through in whatever they will be working on. Quite a number of peeps be saying the Zim entertainment industry ain’t paying but I think it takes balls of steel, good work and patience to see the fruits of your sweat.

From an in-house studio in the suburb of Zimre Park in Ruwa to a standard and state of the art underground studio (basement lol) in the heart of Harare is where one of the rising and fairly recognized studio is at now.

Young Gamez Entertainment which is owned by the one Quazor (INTERVIEWED HERE) changed their residence from Zimre Park to H-town to create an equilibrium on all his artists who come different parts of the country.

The studio is now located at Century House on the basement floor on the corner of Nelson Mandela and Inez Terezz. Due to the demand of the multi-talented Quazor who is currently working on a Hip Hop Mixtape entitled The Invasive Volume 2 and two riddims entitled Grind and Shine and the Street Livity riddim, the studio is always full of artists each and every day ever since it was opened.

Quazor works with an average of fifteen artists per day both established and upcoming artists which makes him one of the most wanted upcoming young producers. "With the way Young Gamez Entertainment is working, it surely is currently the best studios in Harare" - Quazor.

They say love is in the air but to some they say those are fairy tales. A couple of weeks  ago I received an email from Shelmizzo notifying me about his upcoming single called Like This (released a few days ago) which features the beautiful South African babe called Phiwa. Like this is a Hip Hop love track which will be favourites to all those who have had heart breaks if I may say.

The fast paced track is produced by the South African based C.M Beatz and is about a lover who is complaining to the fiancé on why he/she is being treated badly. Phiwa goes in with the chorus as she sings about dishonest, disloyal...
"Why does it have to be like this/ Why does it hurts so much like this/ Why did you promise to love me like that/ Why did you let me go like that/ "
Shelmizzo, That Mushona Guy shows off his lyrical prowess behind the mic as he goes to the other side of the river of Phiwa's story trying to calm down the babe telling her that he did everything for her and now she's ditching her. That Mushona guy switches lanes and start to tell the babe to go on with her life as she has chosen. He tells the chick to delete his photos and contacts in her phone.

Apparently the 2mins 47secs track should have been much better if he had featured another rapper just for diversity and to spice up things. The chorus is kinda too good that if they would be remix of the song, it would be super duper.

Thulani Kachingwe
When Tinashe came on the scene people went berserk in trying to figure out whether she was a Zimbabwean or not. The 22yr old songstress who has been making waves after the release of her track 2On which featured School Boy Q is the only girl in a family of three.

Tinashe is the sister to the boys who all have Zimbabwean names, Kudzai and Thulani. Thulani who recently celebrated his birthday in France took to Instagram to post a picture which had the Zimbabwean tag (ZW). I was dazzled by the comments which some of the Zimbabweans (ladies) posted on his pic as they were all fond of him. Some of them (guys) even commented using our vernacular (maybe seeking attention). Thulani is also a producer and has produced one of his sister's tracks as well as a Basketball player.

All those who were doubting, this fam is from Zim.

After the interview I had with the Dancehall chanter Qounfuzed on how he is surviving without getting airplay on Dancehall sessions on the radio, he took to his social media platform to announce to his fans some of the reasons why he is not being played by the likes of Templeman and Dj Flevah.

THE TOP 5 REASONS WHY QOUNFUZED DON'T GET AIRPLAY ON DANCEHALL SESSIONS ON RADIO!

1.    The whole beef between Me and Seh Calaz - this is because I was one of the few artists that opposed Seh Calaz during his up rise yet other Dj's and promoters were behind the whole anti Winky D movement. However ,we got caught in the crossfire.
2.   Dj Garry B thinks I should improve my style and sound much more like the old me. (Fair Enough) that’s his opinion.
3.    Dj Flevah says most of my tracks carry "dirty" lyrical content (Fair Enough) that’s his opinion.
4.    God Father Templeman thinks that I concentrate more on the ladies thanon my music career (Fair enough) that’s his opinion.

5.   Etherton Beenie - I just feel like he doesn't like me & when we meet we never talk but its normal I guess and I think he’s just stayin loyal to his Bhanditi side (Fair Enough) it’s his loyalty.
Qounfuzed (Perfoming in SA)

Qounfuzed
The emergence of ZimDancehall on the Zimbabwean music industry for the past couple years has seen artists come and go. Some you will only hear one song and they fade whilst others maintain their graph constantly. One of the artists whom I have listened to and see him grow ever since he started is the notorious star, Qounfuzed. Qounfuzed’s career can be traced from way even before the release of Freeman’s hit song Joina City. What amazes me is how he is still managing it in the industry whilst some radio stations are not giving him air play. Two Dancehall shows which have not played Qounfuzed on radio (maybe for personal reasons) are Judgement Yard’s ZiJudgement and Templeman’s Dancehall remedy (Fact). Below is a lil conversation which I had with Qounfuzed as he was talking about how and why his career is being sabotaged.

Ninja Reezy: Hi king what’s good? Without wasting most of your precious time I just need to ask you a few questions concerning your career.

Qounfuzed: Am good man. The floor is yours you can go on.

Ninja Reezy: So Qounfuzed tell me, I’ve been listening to some of these Dancehall shows on radio and surprisingly I don’t remember hearing your songs but you are one of the artists who ride almost every riddim which come out. Can you tell me how or why you not getting air play?

Qounfuzed: First of all I would like to say one man’s meat is another man’s poison, everyone has their favorite and I guess I’m not the ZimDancehall Djs favorite artist but currently my Afro Jazz track is currently number one on the Top 40 weekly & Top 10 daily charts on Power FM.
So I’m not really moved about ZiJudgement Yard’s opinion about my music or whatever reasons they have whether it’s something to do with my talent or maybe the whole battle between my NDURURANI clique and their BHANDITI clique, but the sky is the limit for me because there are different platforms where I can put my music like the social media and other radio stations. The good part now is that I have die-hard fans who follow my music so they always find me and they get 1st hand updates of whatever they wanna know or get.
So I can safely say I’m surviving and besides I started music way back before ZiJudgement Yard so why should I be moved. If they don’t play me, actually I have stopped listening to ZiJudgement Yard coz it gives me a low self-esteem, they make people believe Zimdancehall has a few artists that’s why they interview the same 5 artists out of over 400 nationwide
Now the promoters also think these few artists are the best this genre has and so they now give these few artists shows.

Ninja Reezy: So is this not affecting ma show enyu in and outside the country. I know recently you were in SA?

Qounfuzed: We are survivors still, nyika yakauya nehondo saka hativhunduke. It does affect shows coz 90% influence comes from the media but like I said one man’s meat is another man’s poison so if you are a promoter and you really like Tally B and for as long as he is still alive and making  music, unomubata wodeedza kushow kwako or wopuhwa malink to his music.
So really not being played on radio session is not an issue but maybe not getting air play on all radio stations or all radio stations ndiwo ma1.

Ninja Reezy: So what words would you want to tell those artists who are also getting the same treatment you’re getting from these other radio or club Djs.

Qounfuzed: Ngavanamate zvinoita bho. Coz who Jah bless no man curse. Nothing beats prayer.

Ninja Reezy: Okay king, thanks for your time ka, anyway tamirira Kusvika Rinyure video lol

Qounfuzed: All good my guy, the video will be out sooner than you think. Stay blessed.

Platinum Prince with his GAFA dog
It's now official that controversy runs in Platinum Prince's veins. The foul mouthed Zim Dancehall chanter who is well known for firing shots at almost every Dancehall artist has now taken another stunt where he is now gunning for the Dancehall Igwe.

Platinum Prince who was recently on the Ndururani Tour with his best buddy and ally Qounfuzed has taken the industry by storm as he is now firing shots at Winky D. The Ndururani star will be featuring his dog wearing a t-shirt written GAFA at its back in which that is the title used by the ZimDancehall pioneer, Winky D.

The video which is yet to be released has already sent waves around social media as the photos of Platinum Prince and his GAFA dog are circulating. Apparently people has caught mixed feelings on this issue with others saying that the boy is now becoming too big for his shoes as he should know where to begin and end.

Others are of the notion that dissing is part of the game and there is notjing wrong with that as long as it won't get personal . "The boy who has now been in the game for quite some time is lyrically fiend and his word play is off the hook and I don't see any reason why it is bad to diss someone when it is not personal", said one commentator on Facebook.

Now the question is, will Platinum Prince's career last for a long time considering the level of his diss game?
