January is almost
coming to an end and we been sleeping on some good music which has been dropped
from the 1st of January up to last week if am not mistaken. So am
not going to dwell on the tracks which you’ve heard and read about on other blogs.
So as I was going
through my mails I realized there are a number of songs which I had not
reviewed because of a couple of reasons. The 1st track to appear on
this blog in 2016 will be Slizzy AJ’s Shayi
Zandla produced at We Made it Entertainment.
From the title of
the track you’d probably think it is a complete Ndebele track but naaaah Slizzy
made sure that he catered for all the majority three languages in Zimbabwe.
Shayi
Zandla is a typical self-appraisal Hip Hop track in which
Slizzy will be telling us about how dope he is in the Hip Hop industry. Shayi Zandla which means “Clap your
hands” is part of the chorus which goes like, “Shayi Zandla x2 do the clap.”
Slizzy showed his
artistry with the use of similes and metaphors in some parts of his bars which
is now a unique feature in most of the doppest Zim Hip Hop songs out there.
What I also liked about
this track is the use of the two major vernaculars in Zim. This is good for
music as it breaks language barriers as people of different tribes can be able
to understand what is being said in the song.
My best lines in the
track goes like, “Vanakirwa neskiri hanzi
mdara mawachisa/ From Chi Town to Highfield hanzi mdara machipisa (Machipisa)/
However, besides the
use of multiple languages used in the track, it is not ‘enjoyable’ in the sense
that what he was singing/raping about is typical in many Zim Hip Hop songs. I
gave made three people listen to this song and only one liked it. So I think
next time he should and master his writing so that he won’t be in that category
where one would press next saying this is a typical Nhingi song.
