If you know your music well and has listened to the likes of Thomas Mapfumo then you are about to take the time machine and go back to the days when people were listening to Chimurenga Music. Anyway, this is neither a Chimurenga song nor an old sophisticated song which madhara would dance to.

Ungandiudza chii is Tony Lyas’s latest offering off his debut album Imwe Type which featured one of the talented and rising dancehall chanter Triggerman. Triggerman who is on the chorus brings in the chinyakare feeling on the track as he will be telling dem haters not to forget who he is and to remember he is better than them in all ways.

Like all Hip Hop songs, Tony Lyas who is ridding on the verses will be boasting himself and downgrading his haters telling them he got nothing against them though they hate him. He talks of not giving up on what he does as he was born a winner. Some of the bars in the first verse goes like, “Ini ndiri mdara just like baba vako/ Saka ndiitire easy hunhu hwechi mboko/ Ndiri type inopisa matsaga kunge mogo.

The song which has vernacular rap up to the end has a tight crunk feeling which makes it unique to some of the Hip Hop songs released nowadays. Tony Lyas actually calls himself the Crunk Boy as he says he loves Crunk Hip Hop and he also said he wants to change the Hip Hop scene in Zimbabwe as he has something special which is lacking in the industry. So Ungandiudza Chii is one of those tracks you wouldn’t want to miss on your playlist.

King Shaddy
Saturday the 26th of September was characterized with a great hype of entertainment activities in the city of kings. This was the weekend the curtain fell down for Intwasa Arts Festival which had gone for a week blazing with South Africa’s Black Motion closing down the festival. Elsewhere there was also an album launch for the Luveve boy Cal Vin which saw artists like Asaph and H-town based gospel rapper Brythreesixty.

Hartsfield sports club was the place to be for all youths especially all college students around Bulawayo. Hartsfield hosted the National University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) freshman bash. The event was characterized by all students from different colleges in Bulawayo as well as those who just wanted to have fun. Some would like to say that it was more of a fashion show than anything else as the students were dressed to kill. Scheduled to perform at the bash was the Makorokoza Pamusawu president King Shaddy.

King Shaddy who was the main act at the party came late as other students had started going back to their homes. As soon as he entered the gate there was chaos at the grounds as people wanted to catch a glimpse of Mr Magoo. King Shaddy wowed the crowd with his old time hits such as chipanera and mairos. After twenty minutes he dropped the mic as he insisted that time won’t allow him and this frustrated people who had not had enough him. As he was now walking to his car in accompanied by his guys, he suddenly started to chase one of the students who is believed to have snatched the wrist watch he was wearing. He only ran for a bit then he went back to his car. This left students laughing their lungs off after the scenario.

After King Shaddy’s performance people started streaming out of the gate looking for taxis and those with car finding their ways home. This was how Bulawayo was characterized on Saturday.

Now I know why Noble Styles is the king of vernacular rap in Zimbabwe, like seriously when I first heard They Do Thega, his verse was actually the best that I had in 2015. Anyway the guy is a lyrical fiend, he also featured in the remix of the same track by Blackperl who also featured Trae Yung, Stunner and the controversial dancehall star Qounfused.

In the first verse Noble Styles came with his typical masterpiece of a word play showing that he is one of the best lyricist in Zim Hop Hop. He opened with the lines which goes like, ndinotangira mumvuri wangu kumuka/ ndoutiza kuti ndisafambe nerima/ ndiri bright zvinotosvora nekutosvora zuva dai radzima. Like in the original song he interchanged his bars with the award winning femcee Trae Yung whom I doubted for a long time ever since I started listening to her music. Like Noble, Trae also showed that she is mad when it comes to word play with one of my best lines from her which goes like, ndiriku competer nemiti when it comes to making paper (the rest you listen for yourself lol).

Stunner who has been in the game for so long showed why he is one of the heavy weights in Zimbabwean Hip Hop. He came in telling rappers that he is the best with also some lines going in Maskiri and Keisha White’s track and also throwing some kinda shade on Team Bhoo in which he said that the only Shingi he knows is the one that used to play soccer.

Qounfused and Blackperl also came in with an interexchange of bars with Qounfused showing that he is a true Ndururani and also a dope lyricist whom if he changes to Hip Hop many rappers would kneel down when he is on the mic. One of the bars which Qounfused threw was like, Ndiri Ndururani ndaka operatwer madoctor ma doctor akatanga kubvunza kuti zi Nduru rani. Blackperl also didn’t disappoint as the owner of the joint coming up with some mad vernacular bars which might add to her advantage of being nominated in best female Zim Hop Hop if she submits.

Apparently they do thega remix is one track which you wouldn’t want to miss on your playlist, download and support local music.

His contribution to the Dancehall Industry is on the missing parts of the genre as it is presented in the country, like something that other producers are kinda leaving behind. He is a multi-talented young man, a rapper and a Hip Hop and Dancehall producer. He is only 20 years of age but has managed to go past many obstacles and to make a name for himself in the music industry. Y’all meet Quazor, a producer from Young Games Entertainment and below is a one on one interview which we did with him.

Ninja Reezy: What up Quazor my man, can you start by introducing yourself to the fam.
Quazor: Well, my real name is Augustine Darara a.k.a Quazor. I’m 20 years of age and the man behind Young Games Entertainment.
Ninja Reezy: Where did you do your Primary and Secondary School?
Quazor: I started my Primary School at Lewisham then transferred to Zimre Primary School. I did my secondary school in Murehwa at ST Paul’s Mission then transferred to CITMA College in Harare.
Ninja Reezy: So how did you become a producer, like who taught you or who was/is your inspiration?
Quazor: Mmmmh it started off as an interest till I got my first copy and first and last tutorial from Vukani Shoko a.k.a Vusho. The rest were experiments and a lot of practice.
Ninja Reezy: So as a Dancehall Producer how are you coping with the competition especially at your age, you still young sha?
Quazor: Well to be honest I wouldn’t call myself a Dancehall producer. Those who know me well know my Hip Hop and R’n’B side and the reason I produce Dancehall is not to compete, I feel like my contribution in the Dancehall industry is on the missing parts of Dancehall, like something that I think other producers are leaving behind.
Ninja Reezy: So on the Dancehall side how many riddims do you have in your name so far?
Quazor: From my first to the current Sound Storm riddim they are seven.
Ninja Reezy: Apparently I’ve heard some of your riddims on rotation paZBCtv, have you ever worked with the so-called big artists?
Quazor: Mmmmh I wouldn’t say I have worked with a lot of big artists. I’m a guy who’s still finding his way out.
Ninja Reezy: So since you are both a Dancehall and Hip Hop producer, how do you balance the two?
Quazor: Well it’s not easy I would say. It takes a lot of focus and a lot of sleepless nights to balance the two.
Ninja Reezy: So between Hip Hop and Dancehall which one is your favorite when it comes to producing?
Quazor: Hahaha that’s a tight question man. I would say Hip Hop coz that’s what I grew up listening to but mmmh even the Dancehall side gets me going as well. To answer you I would say it’s not about the genre but more of the creativity and art of the production.
Ninja Reezy: Standard man, I also believe that you’re an artist, can you tell us about it.
Quazor: hahaha yes but not an artist who is always in the booth and all. I just sing when I feel like though I compose and write songs for a couple of artists. I started as an artist before venturing into producing so singing is an old habit that is just dying slowly.
Ninja Reezy: hahaha keep that habit sha, so which artists would you wish to work with in the future as a producer?
Quazor: Winky D, Celsius, basically everyone is unique in their own way.
Ninja Reezy: So where do you see yourself in 5-10yrs to come?
Quazor: Mmmmh if all goes well, would’ve crossed a lot of borders considering that I have worked with artists from different parts of the world.
Ninja Reezy: So words of advice to other young producers out there.
Quazor: Well I wanna say you don’t have to be a grown up to be what you want to be. Dream chasing starts at any age.
Ninja Reezy: Thanks for your time man, so how can people out there contact you?
Quazor: Well here are my social network handles,

Rockers Jnr
During the weekend I had the priviledge to go to SGK RECORDS to see how they run their errands. When I arrived there niggaz were busy behind the condensor. One of the artists i spoke to was Rockers Jnr a.k.a Alwin Ngonyama. Below is a conversation we had.

Ninja Reezy: Rockers my guy we meet again for the second time, what’s up my guy?

Rockers Jnr: Nothing much boss Reezy what’s good?

Ninja Reezy: Everything cool man, so tell me, what have you been up to so far?

Rockers Jnr: Yeah man I dropped something fresh, a dope tune about hustling called Dirty Money featuring my homie Dodge Navigator, chi ghetto anthem yzia, I know mafans akamirira album but we getting there, pachine mufambo though.

Ninja Reezy: People been asking man, what happened between you and E burn?

Rockers Jnr: Oh about that kid, he’s hating on me because ndakabvisa his verse on a song yatakaita tese featuring Tatea called Tapamberi, ndakabvisa verse coz everyone said kuti mface uyo arikupotsa beat akadhakwisa a dope tune, so I did another version tikabvisa verse rake, ipapo ndipo pakatangira daka rese, handina dhiri naye though he ain’t got shit, let’s rather talk about Rockers Jnr, ava vapfana tikanyanyosasa nezvavo takuvaitisa mbiri yzia, I do real beef not ravo repaFB

Ninja Reezy: So tell me, which Zim rappers would you want to collaborate with in the future?

Rockers Jnr: Would love collaborate with Jnr Brown, Gze and Simba Tagz

Ninja Reezy: So apparently who is your best producer?

Rockers Jnr: I have worked with Rockers mix and Benny B, vari two ivavo vakaipa, sando ndovapa, they have a different style and one more thing, I dropped  something new this month, the track is called Hapana Chekumirira featuring Jake Billz and produced by Rockers Mix and ABC.

Ninja Reezy: hahaha we can’t wait for that one (pachinodonha mabloggers anoita over excited #JnrBrownsVoice). So now since Zimdancehall iskinda on top of the charts these days, how do you see future yenyu marappers, isn’t it affecting you anyhow?

Rockers Jnr: To us commercial rappers its not affecting us that much, asi vari pama1 ndevaye vanoimba music inospaka mamwe marappers, vanoita conscious hip hop, handisase mazita hangu but I’m sure wavaketa lol. We ain’t worried though, nguva yeZimhop hop ichasvika manje manje watch the space. Salute kuboys remangoma rikushanda wena.

Ninja Reezy: In terms of your promoters, are they doing enough compared to what they are doing ku Zimdancehall?

Rockers Jnr: Promoters are working but right now they are really concerned with Zimdancehall. The time for Zim Hip Hop will come pretty soon. But as far as promoters are concerned, support is less than we can appreciate.

Ninja Reezy: So internationally who are your best rappers?

Rockers Jnr: Lil Wayne, Tyga, Kanye West and Jay Z. That’s my list.

Ninja Reezy: So to wrap this up who do you wanna say S/O to?

Rockers Jnr: A big S/O to my fam Rockers Mix, DeCarpo, Legendrew, Jnr Brown, Shelmizzo, Chanter and everyone who supports #TeamRockers ndisingadhibhe makoso ese anoda Rockers Jnr ndimi mune yese ndokudai sterekiii.

Ninja Reezy: Anyway thanks for the chat man, your latest tune Hapana Chekumirira is off the hook.

Rockers Jnr: Standard boss, thanks for the interview.

Apparently Stunner is one guy who love to keep up with the current trends, if you listen or have listened to his latest offering then you will know what I am talking about. His latest track called time is one of those dance tracks which will turn the club upside down with no doubt as it comes with a beat (produced by T Man) which one can dance to.

To all the youths who has been dancing nae naes to dancehall and house tunes in clubs, this is the real sh*t as one can apply all their dance moves on this track. Talk about stanky legs, swag walks and nae naes, this track will pop up on your playlist. Apparently some people have purported that Zimhiphop lack dance songs as compared to their dancehall counterparts and I this Stunner has done justice to the critics.

So the track which is called time as mentioned earlier, is all about how Stunner uses his time wisely when he is on the grind and he wastes no time on whatever he does. The chorus which is sang in auto-tune goes like, “Ndiani ane time boys dzangu ndakuda kuenda” (who got time boys I need to go). In his first verse Stunner talks about chilling with the ladies as well as being on the move making sure he pleases his fans. His second verse is all about his schedule from Monday when he visits the bank to get paid then hit the studio to work on a tune then hit the radio later to see Dj Napster to play the tune.

However, what I didn’t like about the track is that it feels like a Rae Sremmurd flow in terms of how he sings his chorus and even some parts of his verses but hey, this is a dope track that people can dance to. Personally I can give it three star rating. So to all the Hip Hop lovers you need to make sure you get track ASAP so that you won’t feel out of place when it is played in the clubs.
